Toy Fair 2020: Minions

Alright, let's take a look at what's sure to definitely not be a shelf-warmer theme later this year - LEGO sets based on Minions: The Rise of Gru. We already shared the official images and info shortly before Toy Fair, but the sets were on display at the show as well. So let's take a closer look and see what useful parts they contain!
Minions
75546 Minions in Gru's Lab
87 Pieces.

$19.99
Available in April
I think the only standouts here are the orange slide and the red roller coaster track. And boy are those Minion figures weird.
75547 Minion Pilot in Training
119 Pieces.
4+
$29.99
Available in April
As a Juniors set this is a really simple build. I guess it could fit into a LEGO city display, but there are better planes out there.
75549 Unstoppable Bike Chase
136 Pieces.

$19.99
Available in April
It's nice that Gru is available in one of the less expensive sets, but that's about where the compliments end. Maybe it's really accurate to the movie, but the bike looks really ugly and thrown together. Not a fan.
75550 Minions Kung Fu Battle
310 Pieces.

$39.99
Available in April
Without a doubt the best set of the bunch, you could swap in Kai, Cole, Jay, Zane, and Nya for the Minions and this would be a decent Ninjago set. The teal roof slopes are great, and there's a bunch of nice gold elements to see as well. There's also at least four different colors of bananas, including red, which I feel like is new for that part.
75551 Brick-Built Minions and Their Lair
876 Pieces.
8+
$49.99
Available in April
Even though I'm not a fan of the Minions this set is kind of neat. The pictures are a bit confusing because they show three different Minions - but only two can be built at a time. The shorter of the two can either be assembled in a one-eye or two-eye configuration, while the taller one stays together in both scenarios. Having the detailed insides is cool, and make sure you check out the new pieces used for the big eyes.
These sets certainly aren't for everyone, but at least there's a few new and useful parts here and there for those of us who don't watch the movies. I'm not overly excited, but we'll see how they do. Don't forget to check out all of BZPower's Toy Fair coverage right over on our handy landing page.
