Set Review: 5002946 Silver Centurion

Continuing his look at all things both Marvel and LEGO, Ta-metru_defender today looks at 5002946 Silver Centurion, a promotional minifig that was available if you preordered LEGO Marvel's The Avengers from select retailers. Well this is a surprise. Nearly three years since Iron Man 3 hit theaters we're getting the Silver Centurion, an armor that featured semi-prominently in that film's climax (at least more so than the Heartbreaker that was in a set). But hey. New Iron Man armor. I ain't complaining. Building

Now that's a minifig.
The Chima armor does a good job of replicating the Silver Centurion's trademark pauldrons, even if they do seem a little oversized.
A couple printed tiles add the details of the Arc Reactor and the back too. It plain works.
As with all Iron Man armors, the faceplate opens up revealing Tony underneath. He's sporting a real shiner which makes me think this is the head that'll be used in the upcoming Civil War sets. What's noticeable about the helmet is that there's silver printing on the helmet part itself, something not done in any other Iron Man.
The other side of the head has Tony sporting a grin, presumably before Captain America punches him across the face. Now, the torso is printed, the legs and feet are printed, and the arms are dual-molded and printed too. There's an incredible amount of detail on this minifig that borders on ridiculous - but given that it's a promotional 'fig, I suppose it makes sense. All this printing also means that, until that Tony head shows up in an upcoming set, every single piece in this polybag except for the two dark-red hands is exclusive. If that ain't value I don't know what is.
The printing on the torso is also detailed enough that you can take off the Chima armor and the Silver Centurion still looks spot on. This is a very pretty minifig. Playability
Minifigs are as minifigs do. They look great with others, else they don't do all that much. In any case, it looks dang pretty on its own or with other promotional Marvel 'figs.
Final Thoughts
The only reason I preordered LEGO Avengers at GameStop was so I could add the Silver Centurion to my collection of Iron Man armors. It's a bit of a bummer that such a great minifig is so limited, like the Iron Patriot before it. But man, if it's not a great minifig. Is it worth getting on the aftermarket? Sure, especially if you like Iron Man.
'Cuz the Silver Centurion makes a great addition. Wouldn't be complete without it. Wait, was this whole review just an excuse for me to show off my LEGO Iron Man collection? Yes, yes it was.
