Discuss This Story Hot Bionicle NewsWednesday, August 10th, 2022 at 1:25am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

The Bio-Cup 2022 contest is nearly complete, as the finals end today. But before the winners get picked, let's take a look back at the last round, the Semi Finals. The theme was Blood, Sweat, and Tears which made for some interesting choices for builds. Read on to check them all out.

    Hemogoblin by Eero Okkonen
    Subtheme: Blood

    Hemogoblin

I really like the concept here, where the Hemogoblic is just a red blood cell, AKA an oxygen delivery person. The bike has a nice solid design, and the oxygen container on the back contrasts nicely. But the best part is clearly the creative face design.

    Blood Clot by Max Howell
    Subtheme: Blood

    BLOOD-CLOT

This one takes a more aggressive tone with the theme, with a Gurren Lagann style character with a face in the chest and big weapon. But the blood splurting out of the shoulder is a nice touch to fit the theme. (Well, I do like the dragon head knees too.)

    The bloodsmith by buttloaf_builds
    Subtheme: Blood

    The Bloodsmith

The winner of this subtheme really does a good job of showcasing the blood flow as it moves through the vat and turns into the guy's red sword. Outside of the bleeding, the mechanical contraption has a nice solid design, which puts some canister elements to good use. But the central character is eye catching too, especially with that dramatic pose.

    The Arduous Carrier by Vohdoff
    Subtheme: Sweat

    The Arduous Carrier

This is a bit of an abstract take on the theme, but the designs are still impressive. The colors of the two characters contrast nicely, and the fur design of the cat is impressive. The necklace is a highlight too.

    When Pigs Lie by MySnailEatsPizza
    Subtheme: Sweat

    When Pigs Lie

This scene really sells the concept, with some expressive pig designs and nice office furniture builds. Alas, the pig is probably quite nervous to answer the Bionicle to system ratio of this build.

Dead Men Don't Sweat by Nikita Nikolsky
    Subtheme: Sweat

    Dead men don't sweat

I wasn't expecting pirates, and yet here we are. The two characters have some goofy proportions and looks, but their expressive faces and poses really sell the scene. The skull head with the small red CCBS joints as the mouth is my favorite part, although the treasure chest is nicely streamline too.

    Crocodile Tears by VelociJACKtor
    Subtheme: Tears

    Crocodile Tears

The cartoonish looks really works for this little scene. The crocodile has some great designs and impressive usages of Ben 10 elements. And they even included the dramatically large tear. Still, the little duck build is also really good for its size.

    Tearful Reunion by Ryan Z
    Subtheme: Tears

    Tearful Reunion

This scene feels a bit more abstract but also quite tender, with the two canister-head beings reuniting. Their color schemes and accompanying trees help showcase their differences despite their similar designs. However, while the robotic tree is nicely done, the organic one looks a bit rushed. Such are the problems with a short contest deadline.

    Onion Onslaught by Ivan Martynov
    Subtheme: Tears

    Onion Onslaught

This is another really clever concept of an onion mech. The hot air balloon pieces work great in capturing the visuals of the onion. The rest of the mech has very stylish technical designs, but I do appreciate how the feet almost end in roots. The little men its fighting against are good too.

As the rounds get shorter, so does our coverage of all the participants. We only have the Finals left, so make sure to stay tuned to BZPower to see what gets built. There are a lot of impressive MOCs being entered this year; I wonder who'll win the top spot?
