    Set Review: 75113 Rey
ReviewSunday, February 28th, 2016 at 10:30pm by Benjamin, BZPower Reporter

You've seen her in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but she is a tad hard to find on the toy store shelves. Look no further, for LEGO has your Star Wars Rey action figure covered. Today BZPower reviews the Rey constraction set, with her staff and gun in hand, goggles on her head, and some action features snapped in to top if off. Is she worth your credits, or should she stay on Jakku? Read, and watch, on to find out.

A special thanks to LEGO for sending us the set to review for everyone. Rey comes with 84 pieces and retails at $20 USD. As a constraction set, the value lies less in how many pieces you get per dollar and more in what those pieces are and what the set is like as a whole. We will be looking at both further on.

The opinions expressed in this review are those of the reviewer and BZPower's and are not in any way representative of The LEGO Group's opinions.

    Presentation
From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.

    Box front Box back

These Star Wars boxes are a tad more flashy than most sets: Not only do we see Rey, but there is a detailed background of some key TFA scenery. It has a bolder look to it and helps set the mood of the focused Rey character being sold. Rey herself is in a fighting stance, with staff at the ready and gun at her side. The gun showing up is a later plot point, but for now I can forgive it being added. Except that, really, she should also have a lightsaber in the set.

The back of the box shows off the play features, in particular the swinging arm motion that utilizes a gear box. Otherwise it also gives a few more angles of set to convince you to buy it.

    Building
Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it?

    Torso Limbs CLothing Final build

Building Rey starts with building the torso around some armor and the gear function. Following that comes the limbs (easy stuff) and then some exterior details like the tan shell armor. The cloth piece is one of the neater fabric parts to be seen in a set, which gets held in and then folded around to give her the robed feel. Finally attach her weapons and head and the Rey action figure is complete.

    Set Design
Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here.

    Pieces Torso piece

We get some fancy new parts with Rey. The dark brown cloth, the shades of tan armor, and some brown parts. The hand piece is now in flesh. There is also a new Technic piece which adds a neck and some back armor. It is hard to describe, there in the top right corner. It has plenty of Technic connections but may be hard to integrate elsewhere. The new torso part which encourages some Technic building to complete the body is also a great addition.

Front Left side Back Right side

For a figure that is mimicking clothing by using segmented shell armor, Rey does a pretty good job looking as she should. That said, the molded head with the wrap and the actual fabric piece received do a good job reinforcing the look. As a whole, she is a pretty solid action figure, with only the gear nob breaking that aesthetic for playability. The staff and gun are both well-done recreations of the movie props. The only prop she does not come with is a lightsaber, which is a poor oversight on behalf of both LEGO and Disney. I would have been happy if they just snuck a few pieces into the polybags and did not even advertise it on the box image for the sake of “secrecy,” as it would be nice to have a complete Rey figure.

    Playability
The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with.

    Staff raised Staff front

Swinging the staff via the gear functions is the biggest play feature here, which will be useful in fending off any bad guys you send Rey's way.

    Staff pose Gun pose

While not a “play” feature, the ability for Rey to pose and look cool on display is an important aspect to hope for. However you choose to show her off, she'll look great.

    Final Thoughts
Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it?

    Pros
    What's to like?

    • Rey action figure!
    • Cool parts.
    • Cloth parts.
    • Poses well.
    • Can fight off baddies.

    Cons
    What's not to like?

    • No lightsaber.
    • Simple play feature.

With Rey standing tall, this set is a great action figure on the toy store shelves. It is one of the few ways to get Rey as a figure. The parts this set comes with will enhance any building collection, or kept together will look great on the shelf. If you're the type to play with the constraction figures, Rey's action feature keeps her on guard and ready to fight. The build is satisfying while familiar and will hopefully inspire some new building techniques. All things considered, this is a worthwhile LEGO Star Wars constraction set.

The Rey set we all deserve.
