Hot Bionicle NewsFriday, September 20th, 2002 at 1:09am by Kelly, BZPower Co-Owner

Greg Farshtey, comic writer for the Bionicle saga, has kindly shared a few tidbits and confirmations about what's coming up. While there's no revelations or specifics, it's illuminating and whets the Bionicle appetite. There is a lengthy thread in his interview Talkback, below are some highlights.

    • There's a big Bionicle story conference in NY this week. All the storyline contributors will be discussing the future of Bionicle.
    • Makuta will most definitely return, but not until the movie "BIONICLE: The Mask of Light".
    • Kanohi Nuva can have an effect over more than just the wearer in the immediate vicinity, but not over long distances. This was seen in comic issue #8.
    • As seen in that issue, the Kanohi Nuva powers can be combined when the group is together, but the Toa must still collect the Nuva masks to get the power of each.
    • Greg hinted at a new challenge that the Toa must prepare for, where they will need all the power they can get their hands on.
    • Greg also confirmed that gold Kanohi do not let you use all six powers at once.
    • The Toa's gold masks were transformed into the masks they now wear.
    • In the storyline, Tahu really was kranaed at one point, we just didn't see it. This is more backstory, apparently, than actual revelatory action.
    • The Toa Nuva don't have the Vahi, and Greg is unsure of the role that mask will play, if any, in the future storyline.
    • As speculated, the "shadow Toa" were only a part of the cancelled PC game, and were never intended to be made into sets. (At one point there was a lot of discussion on BZP of the Toa Nuva being the Shadow Toa, which of course turned out to not be the case.)
    • The title of comic #9 (the final Bohrok saga comic) is "Divided We Fall". A peek into a rift between Toa Nuva, perhaps?
    • This tantalizing tidbit is enforced by another comment: "...as you will see in November, the Toa Nuva are starting to have their differences..."
    • We will see the Exo-Toa in the comic again next year, so these were apparently not destroyed in the battle with the Bahrag.
    • The "next enemy" is the most powerful, combining the strength of the Rahi with intelligence and cleverness. Their first mission: get rid of the Toa.
    • Quote from Greg for the 2nd half of 2003: "And the foes for the latter half of the year -- which I cannot reveal yet -- are like NOTHING you have seen before. They blew me away, and they take the level of danger on Mata Nui to an entirely new level."
    • There will be more comics next year, that's confirmed.
    • The Toa Nuva stay armored at all times in the storyline
    • Greg hinted at a very different use for krana-less Bohrok in March.
